'The Vampire Diaries' season 7 cast update, plot spoilers: Focus to be on Damon and Stefan Salvatore; Annie Wersching to reprise her role as Damon and Stefan's mother
The upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries" had been previously reported to be different from the earlier ones, especially since the main protagonist playing Elena Gilbert, Nina Dobrev, has left the show. This piece of information was the only thing that fans had to go on for the series' spoilers. However, new reports have now confirmed what viewers can expect in the upcoming season.
Apart from Dobrev, Michael Trevino and Stephen R. McQueen have also left the show. Without the three characters, the series will reportedly focus mainly on Damon and Stefan Salvatore.
Julie Plec, the show's creator, recently divulged some information about the cast of the upcoming show. Ecumenical News had reported on the specific details provided by Plec about how fans would now get to see a darker Damon with Elena gone.
On the other hand, recent reports explain how Stefan will change, as there are now three characters less than in season 6. Caroline Dries, executive producer of "The Vampire Diaries", had this to say in a recent interview with E! Online:
"I'm really excited to see Stefan come into his own and he'll really take the role of a hero, which will be really cool. He's always been a hero but I think in a broader sense, he'll become more heroic next season."
A report by CarterMatt.com states that Annie Wersching has confirmed that she will be rejoining the cast for season 7 to reprise her role as Damon and Stefan's mother. Lily Salvatore will have a more crucial role in the upcoming season, with reports claiming that she along with her heretic allies will be the main antagonists in season 7.
A specific date for the premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 is yet to be announced, though the series is slated to air in fall this year.
