'The Lego Batman Movie' release date update 2016: The Joker gets rejected by Batman in latest trailer
A film is only as good as its worst villain, which is why the recent extended TV spot has placed the spotlight on Batman's attention-hungry nemesis, the Joker. The result is seeing through the stereotypical antagonist, and one might actually feel pity over the lovesick psycho clown.
In the latest trailer, the Joker makes Batman choose between two things — save the city, or chase after his greatest enemy, that is, according to him. The Joker's self-praise immediately gets shot down after Batman says Superman is his greatest enemy and glides away while leaving the hurtful statement, "There is no us, never will be."
In true-blue villain style, the Joker seeks retribution with the aid of his evil friends. He recruits the help of well-known enemies such as the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penguin. There were even some seemingly made-up personalities, which he attests are real, like Calendar Man and Condiment King.
It can be recalled in the last teaser that the Joker was indeed coming off as a little too clingy, but no one would have imagined just how much until now. Unlike other movies where audiences are made to hate the big villain, "The Lego Batman Movie" might actually draw more fans to the antagonist with his desperate plea for recognition rather than the main hero of the film.
If there is anything for certain, it is that the movie promises to be a comedic take on the supposed serious and gloomy story of the Dark Knight and his opponents. Fans will get to visualize the DC heroes and villains in an angle no one ever saw coming.
The Lego animated adaptation has made waves over the internet, and all for the right reasons. It is unfortunate for DC, though, as several netizens think that the Lego film is even better than "Batman vs. Superman."
The cast of the film will be brought to life by voices from Will Arnett (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Michael Cera (Robin/Dick Grayson), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl/Barbara Gordon), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred Pennyworth), and Zach Galifianakis (The Joker) to name a few.
"The Lego Batman Movie" takes a swing to the cinemas on Feb. 10, 2017.
