'The Flash' season 3 spoilers: Susan Walters joins cast as Caitlin's mom

The third season of "The Flash" is arriving in roughly two months and aside from the changes that will occur in Barry's life, fans will meet a familiar name but a new face in the form of Susan Walters.
Walters is known for her roles in "The Vampire Diaries" and "Teen Wolf." Entertainment Weekly has exclusively learned that Walters will be joining the cast of "The Flash" season three as Caitlin's (Danielle Panabaker) mom, who has been mentioned previously in the series but was never seen.
This time, Caitlin's mother, Dr. Carla Tannhauser, will finally appear. Her role may recur, which means fans might see her in a number of episodes as well as upcoming seasons of the show.
As fans know, Caitlin doesn't really talk much about her mom, whom she feels is rather cold and not motherly. Carla, on the other hand, turns out to have similar feelings about her daughter, whom she deems is a rebel soul.
The mother-and-daughter pair obviously share a common love for science but will this be enough to draw them closer to each other or will their shared interests make the gap between them become wider instead?
It would be interesting to see how the two science freaks clash in "The Flash" season three but fans will have to wait for further hints on how their relationship will work out in the upcoming episodes.
Meanwhile, Panabaker has expressed her excitement over Walters' addition to the show. "I am SO excited to meet Caitlin's mom #TheFlash," she tweeted. It turns out that Walters feels the same as she also took to her own Twitter account and said: "I can't wait to join @CWTVFlash and work with @dpanabaker!! #The Flash."

Meanwhile, recent reports predict that Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) will continue to see developments in their romantic storyline. This could be a twist in "The Flashpoint" that would intersect with Barry's life before he went back in time to alter his and everyone else's fates.
"The Flash" season three premieres October 4 on The CW.
