Season nine of "The Big Bang Theory" returns with an all-new episode on Thursday, Nov. 5. The upcoming episode titled "The Spock Resonance" will pay tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy.
Fans of "The Big Bang Theory" are aware of the large role that "Star Trek" has played in the show. Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj are huge fans of the movie franchise and have made numerous references throughout the years. Sheldon has also strongly identified with Leonard Nimoy's stoic and emotionless character, Spock.
In the upcoming episode, Sheldon is asked to participate in "For the Love of Spock," a documentary that Adam Nimoy is making about his father.
While being interviewed, Sheldon talks about his napkin that contains Leonard Nimoy's DNA. The napkin is kept in a safe box containing Sheldon's most prized possessions. In the process of taking the napkin out, Sheldon surprises Penny and Leonard when he takes out the engagement ring he had for Amy. Sheldon tries to suppress his emotions but gets upset when Penny calls him out for it.
Sheldon decides that he will really push through with proposing to Amy. Unfortunately, when he arrives at her apartment, he sees Amy on a date with Dave, who she met on the dating app last episode.
Sheldon is devastated and turns to "Star Trek" for comfort. As Captain Kirk and Spock talk about Vulcans having no emotions, Sheldon finally admits that he has emotions. Penny and Leonard console him.
Meanwhile, Howard and Bernadette finally make plans to renovate their home. Bernadette brings along her father Mike to start construction. Howard still has difficulty letting go of his childhood home but finally agrees to renovating the dining room.
When Mike brings up the topic of starting a family, Howard and Bernadette finally have a serious conversation about it.
