'Surf's Up 2: WaveMania' casts WWE superstars; Includes John Cena, Triple H, The Undertaker
Computer-animated mockumentary family comedy film "Surf's Up" is finally going to get a sequel after almost 10 years since it was released back in 2007. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second film about surfing penguins is going to be titled "Surf's Up 2: WaveMania" and will be a collaboration between Sony Pictures Animation and WWE.
The two parties will co-finance and produce to bring a movie that will feature penguin characters that will be voiced by some of WWE's superstar wrestlers. As noted in Slash Film, the movie has cast John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, WWE Diva Paige, and Mr. McMahon. They will be the voice behind the big wave riding crew known as The Hang 5. There aren't much details yet on the background for each character, but more about them is expected to be revealed soon.
As for the film plot, Comic Book Resources detailed that the first film's hero, Cody Maverick, is returning to look for a new challenge. He will be convincing The Hang 5 to let him take part on the quest to finding the mysterious surf spot known as The Trenches. Legend has it that The Trenches is where the biggest waves in the world can be found. But will he be able to find meaning in trying to conquer a death-defying wave? The source went on to say that Cody will eventually realize that the life he left behind may be more heroic.
Cinema Blend also noted that Cody will fall in love, meet new characters, and learn so much about life in the process. However, fans of the first installment will have to adjust to the voice of Cody as it seems like Shia LaBeouf may no longer return to the sequel. The other voice talents, which include Zooey Deschanel, Jeff Bridges, James Woods, Jon Heder, and Diedrich Bader, will not be returning anymore also.
But since there is no official announcement yet on the other cast member, fans will have to stay tuned. "Surf's Up 2: WaveMania" is expected to release in 2017.
