For months, speculation has been surrounding the Surface Phone from Microsoft and when it will be released. Recently the rumors about the device have included details about its specifications and even a leaked image, but the latest news pointed towards it being aimed at customers in enterprises.

The news about the Surface Phone emerged when Kevin Gallo, the Corporate Vice President of Windows, made a statement during a conference in London. During this, he hinted that the device was in the works and it would be aimed at enterprises.

Reporting on Gallo's statement The Register points out that Windows 10 Mobile software is in an "awkward spot" as it has not done well and attracted customers. More importantly, this operating system, which is present on the Lumia 950 XL and the Lumia 950, comes with a lot of unique features like Continuum, which allows it to be docked with a display and keyboard. This particular feature is expected to allow the Surface Phone to operate like a computer and a phone and therefore this might make enterprise users attracted to it.

However, Windows 10 Mobile devices have been lagging behind Android and iOS devices, and it is likely that the Surface Phone will never be able to overtake them when it comes to popularity. However, Microsoft seems to have set its sights on making inroads into companies with the device.

WCCFTech also states that it is likely that Microsoft will release three models of the Surface Phone. Among these, a high-end model is likely to have features such as 512GB of onboard storage which will appeal to enterprises. Also, this Surface Phone it is expected to come with the Snapdragon 830 chipset and 8 GB RAM. In the meantime, the Surface Phone model targeted at consumers and professionals would have 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM, while the consumer edition is likely to have 64GB of onboard storage and 4GB RAM.

Finally, coming to a release date, there is no official word about it from Microsoft but it is likely it will arrive by March 2017.
