Disney and Lucasfilm have finally settled on an actor to play young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming "Star Wars" Han Solo standalone film. It has been announced that Donald Glover will bring the role to life.

It was previously reported that Glover was highly rumored to be playing the role. Now, Disney and Lucasfilm have made things official. The 33-year-old actor is known for playing Troy in "Community" and Earn in "Atlanta," the latter of which he also created. Apart from acting, Glover is also known in the music scene as Childish Gambino, and has been nominted for two Grammy Awards in 2015.

Glover's casting as young Lando came via the officia "Star Wars" website.

"We're so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us," said directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. "These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we'd like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever."

It can be recalled that the character of Lando Calrissian was first introduced in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." Originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams, Lando was considered to be one of Han Solo's friends before he was forced to betray him.

As previously reported, Alden Ehrenreich will be playing the iconic role of Han Solo — one of the characters Harrison Ford is largely known for. Ehrenreich was among the thousands of actors who auditioned for the part. A female character is also apparently being cast, with actresses like Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson, and Naomi Scott already having screen tested for the role.

The upcoming standalone film has yet to be given an official title. It will revolve around a young Han Solo, way before the events of "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." It is scheduled to premiere in 2018.
