'Star Wars: Episode 8' plot rumors, news: Gwendoline Christie teases what to expect, Captain Phasma's true face
Fans are definitely excited about the premiere of "Star Wars: Episode 8," but it's still a year away. However, for those who are skeptical about the sequel and think that it may fall flat, "Game of Thrones" actress Gwendoline Christie has some reassuring words.
Christie, who played the enigmatic Captain Phasma in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," thinks that fans won't be the only ones happy and satisfied with the upcoming film.
"I don't think anyone's going to be disappointed," Christie told Entertainment Weekly.
However, Christie declined to talk about the plot of the sequel and couldn't give away any hints or teasers either. The actress is set to reprise her role as Captain Phasma in Episode 8. And while Christie did a wonderful job with her role in "The Force Awakens," no one really saw the character's face as her costume hid it away. Given this, fans are wondering if Phasma's true face will ever be shown.
"I thought it was a really interesting opportunity to play a female character where we formed an opinion of her based on her actions rather than the way she has been made flesh," Christie said.
The actress continued to explain that the idea was "very modern and interesting and exciting," especially for a popular franchise like "Star Wars." Christie also recalled how badly she wanted to take part in the film, and to participate in that specific way was such a thrill for her.
"I campaigned hard to be in the film. But to be in it as that kind of character — she's a woman, she's in armor, the armor isn't sexualized, and in the film we don't see the actor's face — I thought that was an exciting, modern concept," she said.
While it is unknown if fans will ever get to know more about Phasma, director J.J. Abrams does assure them that the backstory of the Knights of Ren will be explored in the sequel.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" is set to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
