Sony Xperia Z6 release date: Device may not make an appearance at MWC 2016
With the Xperia Z5 causing people to once again take an interest in the flagship smartphones manufactured by Sony, it is not surprising that many are watching its device lineup closely. Most rumors about Sony's smartphones have been concentrated around the Xperia Z6 but now, as MWC comes up, it is thought that the device will not be released during the event.
Reporting on Sony's press event during MWC 2016, which is scheduled to take place on Feb. 22, Pocket Lint states that it is very likely that the Xperia Z6 will not make an appearance. This assumption is made based on the fact that Sony only released the Xperia Z5 in September 2015 and it is unlikely that the company has had time to churn out another flagship device. However, this does not mean that there have been no rumors about the Xperia Z6. In fact, many publications have hinted that Sony is already working on the lineup and up to five models could be released.
Additionally, last year, it was even rumored that Sony would try to copy the iPhone lineup and bring a Force Touch display to the Xperia Z6. However, there has been no official word about the Xperia Z6 lineup from Sony and this has caused many people to rely on rumors to find out more about it.
Even when Sony brought out its invite for MWC 2016, many were expecting to glean more information about upcoming smartphones from it but industry analysts have not been able to do so. This has left many speculating that Sony will only refresh its flagship lineup in September just like it did last year.
Right now, however, the company is concentrating on fleshing out its Xperia Z5 lineup and recently, introduced a rose gold variant with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and 3 GB RAM. Importantly, the pink variant helped brighten up the existing lineup of the Xperia Z5, which previously consisted of devices in black, chrome, white and green. Finally, another Xperia device, the C6, is expected to be released during MWC and renders for it were leaked lately.
