Sony Xperia Z5 Compact vs. Motorola Moto G3: Z5 Compact takes on a budget competitor, the third generation Moto G

Sony released a compact version of its Xperia Z5 smartphone, which comes with the very latest hardware. Though, it is no doubt, an impressive phone, it has to take on other remarkable devices including the budget third generation Moto G, if it wants to catch the attention of smartphone users. Here is how the two compare.

Design

It is apparent that the Xperia Z5 Compact has better design. It comes with a metal frame and has a fingerprint scanner incorporated into its redesigned power button. The front and back of the device is covered with frosted glass and there are four color options, white, black, coral and yellow. The Xperia Z5 Compact has an IP68 rating, which means it can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

As for the Moto G3, it has a plastic body and a band with a metallic coating running along its edge. As for its front, it comes in two colors, white and black and its back panels can be customized on the Moto Maker site. The site allows users to choose from silicone back panels, which come in different colors. Just like the Xperia device, it is also waterproof. It has an IPX7 certification and can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

Display

The Moto G3 is the bigger device between the two. It has a 5.0-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 294 pixels per inch while its competitor has an 4.6-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 323 pixels per inch. The Sony device also comes with Triluminos color enhancing technology and the X-Reality Engine, which makes images a lot sharper.

Specs

In this category, the Xperia Z5 Compact is ahead as it has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset on board, coupled with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz and an Adreno 430 GPU. In its competitor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, coupled with a CPU with four cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU.

Memory

Both devices have memory slots, but the Moto G3 can only support up to 32 GB of external storage while the Xperia Z5 Compact can support up to 200 GB. As for RAM, the device from Sony has 2 GB on board while the Moto G3 either comes with 1 GB or 2 GB.

Camera

There is a superb 23 megapixel camera on the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact with hybrid autofocus that allows for pictures to be taken within 0.03 seconds while the Moto G3 has a 13 megapixel camera.

Price

When it comes to price, however, the Moto G3 cannot be beaten as its model with 1 GB of RAM only costs $179, while the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact has a price tag of $656, unlocked.
