Sony PS4.5 release date could be made public during PlayStation VR launch
With a ton of rumors surfacing about the PlayStation 4.5 console, Sony has strangely remained mute about it and allowed users and industry pundits to keep speculating. Now, as attention turns to the upcoming release of the PlayStation VR, many have started to wonder about the arrival of the PS4.5 and when it will be available in the market.
Last month, there were indications that the upcoming PlayStation 4.5 could be announced just before the PlayStation VR lands in the market. This is looking increasingly likely because the PlayStation 4.5 is expected to arrive with a 4K gaming ability — thanks to an upgraded GPU and thereby benefiting the PlayStation VR. Now, reports have emerged that the Sony PS4.5, which is also known as the Sony PS 4K, could come with AMD hardware. This was hinted at when the earnings for AMD were reported.
In the earnings call for the last quarter of 2015, AMD pointed out that its console hardware, which was manufactured under the EESC Segment, would be used in consoles that are releasing in 2016. As soon as this news emerged, industry analysts pointed out that the enterprise embedded and semi-custom (EESC) segment usually includes console hardware and it is likely that AMD was referring to new ones in the pipeline. Additionally, only two new consoles have been rumored this year and one of them is the Sony PS4.5. As for the other console, it is not going to be an improved Xbox One as Microsoft has denied that it has one in the works, so all indications are pointing toward AMD referring to the Nintendo NX.
Meanwhile, GameIndustry.Biz states that Sony is not doing any favors to industry analysts or gamers by not addressing the rumors about the Sony PS4.5 just like Microsoft did by shutting down those about the Xbox 1.5. This could result in gamers waiting until the 2016 holiday season to purchase the Sony PS4.5 as they believe it could be much superior to the current PlayStation 4. As for the Sony PS4.5, it is expected to arrive in the market by the end of the year.
