'Shameless' season 7 spoilers, news: Frank declares war on his family; new cast members added for next season

(Facebook/ShamelessOnShowtime) Frank Gallagher declares war on his family in "Shameless" season 7.

The Gallaghers are real survivors, and even the icy waters of the Chicago River couldn't kill Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy). In the upcoming season of "Shameless," the perpetual drunk will be declaring war on those who tried to off him.

Fans will recall that at the end of the series' sixth season, Lip (Jeremy Allen White) agrees to undergo treatment for his alcoholism, Debbie (Emma Kenney) decides to accept Fiona's (Emmy Rossum) help in raising Frannie, and Ian (Cameron Monaghan) was able to get his job back. The ever-suffering Fiona's wedding was ruined when Frank revealed that Sean (Dermot Mulroney) was still using heroin. The finale ended with Caleb (Jeff Pierre), Carl (Ethan Cutkosky), Debbie, Ian, Kev (Steve Howey), Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter), and Veronica (Shanola Hampton) kidnapping Frank and tossing him into the Chicago River.

However, it appears that someone is still watching over the Gallagher patriarch. According to Deadline, the new season of "Shameless" will pick up a month after the events in the season 6 finale. Frank will apparently wake up from a coma to learn that his own family left him to drown in the Chicago river.

It seems that Frank will be declaring war on his family, but he might find that his children won't give him the time of day. Fiona will reportedly be too busy trying to move on from Sean and with improving her life. Lip is out of rehab and has a new outlook, while Ian is doing well in both his professional and personal life. Debbie and Carl are also maturing in their own way. The question now is whether the Gallagher siblings can continue on this path without Fiona to help them.

With the Gallaghers trying to move on and face new challenges in their lives, fans can also expect new people to come into their world. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that June Squibb will be joining the cast next season. The "Nebraska" star will reportedly play Etta, an 80-year-old woman from Southside Chicago who has strong ties to the city.

Aside from Squibb, fans will also be seeing "NYPD Blue" alum Sharon Lawrence as she plays Margo, who owns the coffee shop where Fiona works. The real estate mogul will allegedly become a role model for the struggling Fiona.

"Shameless" season 7 will resume airing on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.
