'Scandal' season 6 spoilers: Mellie hates Olivia's choice Jake for her VP running mate

(Facebook/ScandalABC)Mellie will soon learn that Jake is a liability in "Scandal" season 6.

Mellie (Bellamy Young) will soon realize that it was a mistake to have Jake (Scott Foley) as her running mate in the upcoming elections in "Scandal" season 6.

During the last installment's finale, Olivia (Kerry Washington) pulled off an unexpected maneuver. To help Jake, she made him a vice presidential candidate in Mellie's ticket. The fixer thought she did good in forcing her father Rowan (Joe Morton) out of their lives, but she was dead wrong. The older Pope's plan was finally revealed and it involved Olivia and Jake all along. He knew that she would do everything to help Jake. Rowan wanted them both in the White House and Olivia's actions were the first step in making that dream come true.

At the moment, Mellie is not aware of what transpired. She is still in her happy place after getting the nomination. She only knows Jake on paper and is satisfied with what she has read in his resume so far. She does not know that he is Rowan's pawn and may be the biggest hurdle she will be facing in her career.

Young told Variety that her character would soon realize that her running mate is not what he seems to be. By that time, it may be too late and the damage has been done.

"...I think she has no idea that she just sat down in Papa Pope's lap. I know that on paper, Jake is just sterling, he's fantastic and pristine. At the convention when she's standing with Jake beside her, I think she's just drunk with optimism because things couldn't be going any better — she also has no idea that Cyrus is running with Frankie. She's still naive and in her happy place. ... Between slowly finding out the truth about Jake, I also don't think he'll do well in an ornamental, not functional position. I think there will be a lot of friction there," the actress shared.

ABC has yet to announce the release date of "Scandal" season 6 although it is expected to return in the midseason of next year.
