'Scandal' season 6 premiere spoilers: Fitz helps Olivia defeat Cyrus
Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) support for the Mellie-Jake tandem may be the last straw needed to take down Cyrus (Jeff Perry) in the upcoming season of "Scandal."
The new installment of the hit ABC series will kick-start on the night of the presidential elections, where it will be revealed who will become the next leaders of the United States. Mellie (Bellamy Young) will go against Frankie (Ricardo Chavira) in a head-to-head battle for the presidency. Jake (Scott Foley), on the other hand, must defeat Cyrus for the vice presidential position. As per spoilers, outgoing President Fitz will not go quietly. In fact, he may even help Olivia (Kerry Washington) win this whole thing and crush Cyrus' devious plans.
Previously, it has been teased that Mellie still has no idea about Cyrus' candidacy. She went along with Olivia's plans to have Jake as her running mate, confident that she has this election in the bag. What she does not know is that Cyrus has created a strong opposition for her. It was Cyrus who made Frankie a household name. While working with Fitz, he has established secure connections and is confident this will help him win the elections. Cyrus, however, will not see Olivia's trump card coming. If Fitz decides to give his ex-lover a hand, viewers can expect that things will turn even messier for everyone.
In her previous interview with Variety, Young said that Fitz supports her character 100 percent. She also believes that he would back Jake's campaign too. Of course, there is bound to be some tension between the two men. After all, having Jake as a candidate means he will be spending more time with Olivia. Young, however, thinks that season 6 will see Fitz being more open to change.
"He might be okay with Jake. I think he knows a lot about Jake — certainly more than he's ever shared with Mellie. He's trusted him implicitly in the past, even after great deceit. The real hiccup would be how is he feeling about Liv in that moment and how jealous is he of the proximity it will give Jake to Liv. But the Fitz we leave in the finale of this season is a really open-hearted Fitz," the actress said.
"Scandal" season 6 is expected to premiere midseason 2017 on ABC.
