San Antonio Spurs trade rumors 2016: team best fit for Carl Landry?
There are a number of teams gunning for veteran forward Carl Landry as of late but the San Antonio Spurs might be the greatest destination for him.
In a report, SportsBlog mentioned factors why San Antonio is the team Landry should sign with this free agency.
The first is Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich who is known for being fair to his players.
Popovich knows how to rotate his players and gives almost everyone a chance to see action. With the Spurs, Landry can be expected to get some minutes and this may improve if he provides satisfactory performance, unlike with other teams where he might not even play and be stuck on the bench, soon becoming a trade piece or worse, getting waived.
Another factor listed on the report is that the Spurs are always title contenders, which is something players, especially veterans, are considering when joining a team.
Guys like Landry whose playing years are numbered are likely aiming to be part of an organization that has a legitimate chance to win a championship. Since they are no longer playing for fun or individual feats, their goal is to have a ring before capping off their careers.
The Spurs could help Landry with that because as mentioned, they are one of the teams viewed as frontrunners for the Larry O'Brien Trophy each season.
Aside from these, the Spurs might also add Landry because he is a power forward and this off-season they lost one when Tim Duncan officially retired after 19 seasons. The 32-year-old will not be at the same level as "The Big Fundamental" but he can be considered a good replacement.
For now, Landry remains available on the market. But as training camps near, the Spurs and the other teams targeting him might make a move soon to sign him to a deal.
