Apple might not have released a new iPad Air this year but it is clear that the iPad Mini 4 is going to provide a serious amount of competition to other tablets in the market including the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, and this is how these two devices fare in a comparison.

Design

When Samsung released the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 this year, it was billed as a premium offering as it comes with metal frame. However, the back is made from plastic but it feels good to hold compared to last year's tablets from the company. There is also a fingerprint scanner incorporated into the home button and the device has three color options: white, black and gold. Compared to this, the iPad Mini 4 has a much better appearance as it has metal unibody and its edges are rounded. With this traditional Apple design the device is a real beauty to behold and its three colors options gray, silver and gold which serve it well. As for the fingerprint sensor on the iPad Mini 4, it is also integrated into its home button.

Display

Comparing the display on these devices, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has a super AMOLED version measuring 8.0 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and density of 320 pixels per inch. As for the iPad Mini 4 it has an LCD display measuring 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and density of 324 pixels per inch.

Specs

Here, the iPad Mini 4 from Apple is faster as it has an A8 chipset, coupled with a dual core CPU and a PowerVR GX6450 GPU. On the tablet from Samsung there is an Exynos 5433 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on the iPad Mini 4 so external storage cannot be added while the slot on the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 supports up to 128 GB. Coming to RAM, the device from apple has 2 GB onboard and its competitor has 3 GB.

Price

The 16 GB version of the iPad Mini 4 costs $399 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has a similar price tag.
