Samsung Galaxy Note 5 vs. iPhone 6s Plus: two great phablets battle it out
Over several years, Samsung has managed to create impressive phablets, and this year is no exception, especially with the release of their redesigned Galaxy Note 5. But now that Apple just released their own iPhone 6s Plus, the battle between the two tech giants is bound to heat up. Here is how the two devices compare.
Design
The iPhone 6s Plus has a premium full metal body and it comes with Apple's familiar design elements including rounded edges. However, the metal used in its construction is 7000 series aluminum making it tougher and less prone to bending. There is also a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button and the device comes in four colors, silver, gold, space gray and rose gold. As for the Note 5, it uses metal for its frame but its front and back are covered with Gorilla Glass 4. It comes with a handy S Pen Stylus for writing and drawing. Just like the Apple device, it also has a fingerprint scanner. As for colors, there are four options, white, black, gold and silver.
Display
The display of the Note 5 is bigger and it has better density. It comes with a 5.7-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch. As for the iPhone 6s Plus, it has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch. In addition, it comes with 3D Touch, a feature which can sense the amount of pressure the user is applying on the screen.
Specs
There is very little information about the hardware of the iPhone 6s Plus but it has the latest Apple A9 chipset coupled with a CPU with two cores clocked at 2 GHz. As for the Note 5, it has Samsung's homegrown Exynos 7420 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.
Memory
There is no memory slot on both these devices, therefore external storage cannot be added. As for RAM, the Note 5 is effortlessly ahead with 4 GB, since the iPhone 6s Plus reportedly only has 2 GB onboard.
Camera
There is a 16 megapixel camera on the Note 5 and it has optical image stabilization, a feature also present in the 12 megapixel camera of the iPhone 6s Plus.
Price
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with 32 GB of internal storage costs $249.99 with a two-year contract while the 16 GB iPhone 6s Plus costs $299 with a similar contract.
