Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy A8: sibling rivalry between these two Samsung devices

Samsung has a very huge range of smartphones and phablets, so it is unsurprising that there are competition between its budget-priced and premium devices. And two Samsung devices, which have been battling it out in the smartphone arena, are the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy A8. Here is how these two phablets compare.

Design

The Note 4 reflects Samsung's past reliance on plastic. It comes with a plastic build, a metal frame and a back panel covered in faux leather. It comes with an S Pen Stylus and a fingerprint scanner. It has four color options: white, black, pink and gold. As for the A8, it comes with more metal as its body entirely made from aluminum. However, its back panel is made of plastic. Just like its sibling, it comes with a fingerprint scanner, but it only comes in three colors, white, black and gold.

Display

The screen on both of these devices are equal. Each measures 5.7 inches, but the Note 4 has a sharper super AMOLED version with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 515 pixels per inch. The version on the A8 is a super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch.

Specs

When it comes to hardware, the Note 4 is ahead as it has a better Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, along with a Krait 450 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and an Adreno 420 GPU. As for the A8, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and four clocked at 1.3 GHz and an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The memory slots on the Note 4 and the Galaxy A8 are similar. Both slots can support up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM however, the Note 4 is superior as it comes with 3 GB. The A8, on the other hand, only has 2 GB.

Camera

A 16 megapixel camera is present on each of these devices, but the Note 4's camera comes with optical image stabilization — a feature not present on the A8.

Price

The price of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has fallen and several carriers now offer it at $129 with a two-year contract. The Samsung Galaxy A8, on the other hand, costs $510 without a contract.
