'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' release date, news: The Red Queen wants Alice to stop her
The 15-year-old franchise that spanned six installments in its wake is about to draw at a close, and, from the looks of it, it won't be going silently. "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is going to be the culmination of Alice's journey as she returns to where it all began. The Screen Gems title is doing all it can to further increase hype every single day.
In the latest clip revealed with the title "Welcome Home," Alice (Milla Jovovich) is driving into Raccoon City, the center of human race's devastation. The Red Queen (Ever Anderson) sees her approaching the city, and, despite the cool and collected façade, Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) orders her to prepare defensive measures, showing that he recognizes Alice as a threat.
In a way, this is to be expected as Alice dished hurt in the previous times they met in other installments of the franchise. Albert wants to be ready for the oncoming onslaught. What's curious though is the next clip revealed, adding more mystery than just a linear bashing of skulls.
The other clip, dubbed "Hello Alice," is adding more depth and confusion to the plot. The Red Queen tells Alice that the remaining humans on the planet will cease to exist in less than 48 hours, but didn't come to taunt her; instead, she wanted Alice to try and stop her.
This is rather contradicting to what appeared to be her motivation. Is she playing with Alice, or is she being controlled by someone else and wanted to warn her?
If anything, the sixth installment to the Resident Evil saga is going to be of epic proportions. "This movie, in my opinion, is the best in the franchise," Jovovich said during an interview. "We've so many incredible stunts, actors are so amazing, the story is riveting, [and] it really brings the whole franchise to this amazing closure the audience is going to love."
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" drops into cinemas on Jan. 27.
