'Resident Evil 2' remake updates: Game to be released next year?
It has been a while since Capcom announced its intention to create the remake of "Resident Evil 2." The fans are getting worried that the project might have been scrapped to give way to the other brands of the popular game.
Yoshiaki Hirabyashi a.k.a. H of the R&D Division 1 announced (via a Youtube video) in August last year that Capcom has finally approved the "Resident Evil 2 Remake Project." He thanked the fans for their continued support and promised to update them via the game's official Facebook page regarding their progress. The producer cautioned though that it might take them a while since the "Resident Evil" brand is busy with its other games such as the HD Remaster version of "Resident Evil Zero."
"It's been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved. The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans' passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want," Hirabyashi said.
More than a year after the happy announcement, there is still no update about the remake. As per Game N Guide, it is possible that the project has been dropped so that Capcom could focus on its newest game, "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard." There are speculations though that the "Resident Evil 2" remake might be released together with "RE7" in time for the game's twentieth anniversary. The big event is reportedly slated to happen in January 2017.
Meanwhile, there are also rumors claiming that a beta version of the remake will be released before the full game. Capcom is allegedly planning to release it anytime next year. There has been no confirmation of the said speculations, so it is best for the fans to take them with a grain of salt. In the meantime, they can enjoy the spinoff "Umbrella Corps" released June of this year.
