'Power Rangers' reboot update: Casting starts, plot rumors circulate
The "Power Rangers" franchise, which debuted on Fox more than 20 years ago, is an all-time classic children's TV show. It features high school kids infused with unique super powers. Its success transcends generation upon generation of young viewers and as such, the announcement of the production of a full length adaptation comes almost as no surprise.
The upcoming movie reboot of "Power Rangers" by Lionsgate and Saban has already started casting teenagers to portray the iconic characters from the long running series. Scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, together with director Dean Israelite, have been tapped to oversee the production and script of the upcoming movie. According to CinemaBlend, the official shooting for the film will commence as early as the turn of the year.
Unsurprisingly, rumors surrounding the adaptation have already found their way online. According to some reports, the reboot for the "Power Rangers" will not be a recreation of the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" series but rather a continuation of the current "Power Rangers Dino Charge."
Still others claim that the production of the film has already picked its villain and it seems like the 2017 release is going old school with the original villain of the very first "Power Rangers," Rita Repulsa. Repulsa, who was in the original series, was released from a space dumpster following her 10,000-year imprisonment. Upon release, she begins to conquer Earth, prompting the Power Rangers to save the world from the forces of evil.
The legendary Robot Megazords is also speculated to be featured in the upcoming film. Reportedly, fans can also expect multiple battle scenes including the Rangers protecting the Morphin Grid that houses the energy source.
The reboot of "Power Rangers" is expected to be released a little over a year from now, in January 2017.
