'Outlander' season 3 spoilers, news: Caitriona Balfe previews Claire's struggle with Frank
"Outlander" season 3 is going to be a roller coaster ride of emotions for one particular character, especially since she is set to give birth to a daughter. Caitriona Balfe's Claire, under the pretense that Jamie (Sam Heughan) is dead, will try to give her marriage with Frank (Tobias Menzies) another shot.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Balfe previewed an exclusive photo of her character holding up her daughter, Brianna, to Frank.
"This is right after Claire gives birth to Brianna," the actress said, describing the moment as "wonderful because it's a new beginning." However, Balfe continued to explain that the moment also comes with a few sour notes since "it's so fraught with so many other things."
"Obviously, this is Jamie's child, but Claire's in a new time and believes that Jamie is dead. So she's really trying to look forward and give her daughter a new life, a stable family," she continued.
On the other hand, Balfe also explained what Frank is feeling at that moment. Claire disappeared without a trace for so long, and now that she's back, he'll have a hard time coping with it. But that isn't to say that it will come easy for Claire.
"They're tentatively trying to see if they can patch things up and allow themselves to embrace a future together," she said. "They really do try, but it's not quite that easy."
Production for the third season of the Starz series is currently ongoing. Balfe previously revealed that she has been shooting scenes with Menzies a lot, but has finally reunited with Heughan on set. This year, the cast and crew will be taking the production to South Africa, which is going to be the location of Jamaica in season 3. While speaking to Variety in December, Balfe expressed her excitement about having more sunshine to work with.
"Outlander" season 3 will premiere this year.
