'Outlander' season 3 spoilers: David Berry to play Lord John Grey

(Facebook/OutlanderTVSeries.starz)"Outlander" season 3 will premiere in 2017.

The "Outlander" family just got a little bigger. It has been revealed that a grown Lord John Grey will be introduced in the third season of the Starz television series and that an actor has already been cast to portray the role — David Berry.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reported that Berry will bring the character of Lord John Grey, who was first seen as a young boy in season 2, to life. The character is described to be "a steadfast and honorable British subject" who finds himself at a crossroads between his duty to his family and "a strong moral compass of right and wrong."

"He is boyishly handsome with an upper class rearing — the consummate gentleman. However, a scandal from his past has relegated Lord John to an undesirable position as governor of a desolate prison in Northern Scotland," the description reads.

It was previously reported that season 3 would draw from the events written in "Voyager," the third book in Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" novel series. Fans of the books know that Lord John Grey is a significant character. But even though Gabaldon wrote a separate franchise focusing on the character, it has been noted that the Starz series will not incorporate those stories into the third season.

Apart from Lord John Grey, another character has been the subject of rumors as of late. There have been talks that a new girl will enter the life of Jamie (Sam Heughan). This southern girl will apparently come in between Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe), but it is unknown how she factors in to their lives. Since this news has not been confirmed, though, fans should take this with a grain of salt.

As for the release date of "Outlander" season 3, the network has yet to officially announce one. However, it is expected to premiere sometime in 2017.
