Season 2 of "Outlander" finally premieres later this week. In an all-new season, Jamie and Claire must find a way to move on from a painful past in order to rewrite the future.

Following the brutal torture that Jamie endured from the hands of Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall in season 1, Jamie and Claire find themselves abandoning the dull and drab Scottish countryside in exchange for a colorful and extravagant new lifestyle in Paris.

"When we got to Paris, we realized it's a completely different world. The costumes, the sets — it's more voluptuous. It's more luxurious, but more constricted," star Sam Heughan told TVLine.

While Jamie is still deeply affected by the trauma he endured, he will try to distract himself by mingling with the French aristocracy and exploring a completely new world. However, the effect of his trauma will still play a part in their new lives.

"What people forget about sexual trauma is that it doesn't just affect the person that it was done to. It affects their entire network," actress Caitriona Balfe added.

Jamie and Claire will also take on a very big burden in the upcoming season — trying to stop the Jacobite Rebellion. Given Claire's knowledge of the future, Jamie and Claire grapple on whether it is right to rewrite the future in order to secure Scotland's fate.

As the rebellion starts to take shape and their surroundings become much more dangerous, Jamie's first priority is to protect Claire and their unborn child. While exact plot details have yet to be revealed, based on the novels, Claire will travel back to her current timeline where she will give birth. How will her husband Frank react to Claire admitting that she no longer loves him? Will she be able to find her way back to Jamie?

Season 2 of "Outlander" premieres on Apr. 9, Saturday, at 9 p.m. ET on Starz.
