'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 spoilers: Maria Ruiz continues to be brave and dangerous
After her character took a dark turn in the previous season of "Orange Is the New Black," Jessica Pimentel has revealed that her Maria Ruiz character will continue to be brave and dangerous in the forthcoming season of the Netflix original series.
With the shocking ending of "Orange Is the New Black" season 4, it is but natural for the fans of the said series to wonder what can possibly happen when it returns for its next installment. After all, the death of Poussey (Samira Wiley) is heavily expected to influence the events within the Litchfield prison when the series begins streaming its latest season.
As far as the stoic Maria Ruiz is concerned, Pimentel has recently revealed in an interview that her character will continue to be someone other inmates should fear. To recall, in the season 3 "Mother's Day" episode of "Orange Is the New Black," Maria Ruiz's boyfriend, Yadriel (Ian Paola), decided not to allow their daughter, Pepa, to visit her anymore as she was beginning to understand that her mother is in prison.
As she was deprived to see her daughter, Maria Ruiz gradually turned dark in the previous season of "Orange Is the New Black," and Pimentel revealed that her character will continue to be so in the upcoming season 5 of the series as Maria Ruiz will show more acts of bravery.
"You see that Maria took a turn for the dark side in season four, but I think it was with good reason. She had a great reason, she lost her one beacon of hope. And, when someone has nothing, nothing to live for, they become the most dangerous person in the road. So Maria's still dealing with that... She's gotta take care of herself because she realizes everyone's out for themselves there ... You'll see a lot of acts of bravery from Maria this season," Pimentel said in an interview with The Music.
Apart from disclosing what fans of the series can expect from her character, Pimentel also said that "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is "highly stylised" and "shot in a completely different way," and unexpected things are set to happen to certain characters.
"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 begins streaming on Netflix this June 9.
