Nintendo amiibo news: first wave of new amiibos launching on September 11
Nintendo is gearing up for a major amiibo expansion, with new characters scheduled to be released over the course of the next few months. The news that some of these amiibos will be paying homage to retro gamers has gotten a lot of people excited.
The next wave of amiibos will be coming out on Sept. 11, 2015, and will include Bowser Jr. (riding his Koopa Clown Car), Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Olimar and Zero Suit Samus. A special amiibo will be included in this wave – a limited edition 8-bit – as a poignant nod to the 30th anniversary of "Super Mario Bros."
This unique 8-bit Mario will be released alongside the launch of "Super Mario Maker." The five amiibos can be used on "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U and 3DS.
Nintendo will again launch another wave of amiibos on Sept. 25. This time around, it is a very special retro set that includes Duck Hunt, Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B., with all three compatible with "Super Smash Bros." However, they will only be sold as a bundled set.
Nintendo's problems regarding the supply and demand for its amiibos are well known, which was probably why pre-orders for the Retro-3 pack was allowed on Aug. 8, but with customers limited to one order only.
The company also announced during this year's E3 that they will be releasing three amiibos based on the customizable Mii fighter from "Super Smash Bros." Those amiibos are now confirmed to be available in November but will unfortunately be sold as part of a set.
There have been reports that Nintendo will also be releasing a second Mario amiibo for the "Super Mario Bros." anniversary but this time, the figure is said to be based on the red and brown color scheme of the first "Super Mario Bros." However, no details about this have been released yet.
It is the same with the Falco amiibo. Nintendo earlier claimed Falco would be bundled along with Duck Hunt, R.O.B. and Mr. Game & Watch but upon checking, the amiibo has been listed for a "Holiday 2015" release.
