Nintendo NX release date and rumors: Next-gen console rumored to come 2016 with AMD processor
Nintendo has been very quiet these past few months in terms of the details for their next-gen console, the Nintendo NX. The last time fans heard about the console was in December 2014. The company held a press conference last March but not much was said regarding the NX. However, a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that processor/GPU manufacturer AMD might be developing something for Nintendo's next console.
According to a report from Crossmap, rumor has it that AMD and Nintendo might be working together in developing the Nintendo NX. The rumor suggests that AMD might provide its processor, said to be x86-based.
Furthermore, AMD has previously hinted that they are currently working on a new next-gen console and it can be expected to be released by 2016.
"I will say that one is x86 and the other is ARM, and at least one will be beyond gaming, right ... They [the customers] are going to announce it and then ... you will find out that it is AMD's APU that is being used in those products," AMD CFO Devinder Kumar said last December, as quoted by Crossmap.
In terms of design, MNR Daily reports that the next-gen console is believed to sport a look quite different from previous platforms as it will feature new concepts for its controllers as well as the software installed in it.
Not much has been officially confirmed about the NX as of yet, so for now, it would be best for gaming fans to keep an open-mind and keep an eye out for more updates from Nintendo and AMD.
