NFL trade rumors: Jamar Taylor at Cleveland Browns gets new lease of life

One would think that deals involving the Cleveland Browns would have ended following that multiplayer deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, but apparently, such is not the case.

After trading away the no. 2 pick, transactions continue for the Browns. Their latest deal involved the acquisition of cornerback Jamar Taylor. The Browns and the Miami Dolphins swapped seventh round picks as part of the deal.

Taylor was a second round pick back in 2013 but has failed to hook on to a starting spot with the Dolphins. Though he had a chance to be the no. 1 player, he eventually lost out last summer. From there, it was downhill for Taylor following his deactivation.

The trade gives Taylor a new lease on life, which seems fitting considering that the Browns do need someone to man the cornerback slot. Injuries have sounded the alarm for a fit player to man the position, with an injury-plagued Joe Haden and the inconsistent showing of Tramon Williams last year.

Pierre Desir and K'Waun Williams have had their moments, but the Browns are looking at someone who can consistently help out their team's cause at the vulnerable slot.

For Taylor, this is an opportunity that he needs to take seriously. Following a forgettable stint in South Beach, his chances of snagging a key role will depend on how he responds to the Browns moving forward.

Some are hoping that he turns out better than Justin Gilbert, the no. 8 overall pick of the Browns back in 2014. He managed to start in only three games in his first two seasons, though the Browns are still trying to see if they can salvage his career with some help from defensive coordinator Ray Horton.

Aside from Taylor, the Browns also added Trey Caldwell, who they got with the 173rd overall pick in the fifth round at the 2016 NFL draft.
