NBA free agency rumors 2016: Kwame Brown eyeing return
The 2016 off-season is a time for planned comebacks and another player expressed the desire to again be in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This time it is former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown.
Brown was so good in high school playing for Glynn Academy that the Washington Wizards used their top pick to select him in the 2001 draft.
Washington passed on the opportunity of having the likes of Tyson Chandler and Pau Gasol because perhaps the franchise saw something in Brown.
But as Brown's NBA career rolled, he failed to live up to the hype and expectations which led to him being one of the biggest draft busts in the league.
Brown's best year in the NBA was during his third season in the capital when he was scoring 10.9 points a game. That is the only season in which he averaged double-digits in scoring.
Following a subpar run with the Wizards, Brown had uneventful stops with the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Detroit Pistons, the then-Charlotte Bobcats, Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Now, Brown seems ready for another chance in the NBA and this was mentioned in a statement released by his agency, Interperformances.
Despite the positives Brown can contribute to any team which were enumerated in the statement, it is going to be difficult for him to secure a contract.
Indeed, there are teams in the NBA searching for a center this off-season. Some of these are even contenders like the reigning champions Cleveland Cavaliers and runner-ups the Golden State Warriors. But they are unlikely willing to spend on a player who struggled for the majority of his career. Besides this, the 34-year-old was also plagued by several injuries in the past which may have made him a fragile big man.
But who knows? The off-season is when stunning moves are made and soon an organization may give Brown one last shot.
