'Narcos' season 3 air date, cast news: Nicholas Gonzalez cast as DEA agent
"Narcos" has added another cast member to its list for season 3. Nicholas Gonzalez, who is known for his work on shows like "Pretty Little Liars" and "Sleepy Hollow," will be playing an American DEA agent named Lopez.
According to Deadline, Lopez is no stranger to the drug war. He is described as being experienced and has all the necessary skills required. And although he is said to be competent, it remains to be seen where his loyalties lie.
Season 2 told of Pablo Escobar's (Wagner Moura) downfall and death. And with the head of the Medellin Cartel gone, Cali Cartel rises to the power. The upcoming season will focus on the Cali Cartel and the combined efforts of two governments — American and Colombian — to take it down. However, as seen in the past, these two governing bodies don't always meet eye-to-eye.
It has been said that the Cali Cartel is much more manipulative and low-key than the Medellin Cartel, taking advantage of government agents who have flexible moral compasses. It is unclear whether Lopez will be one of the moles that the Cali Cartel will employ.
Gonzalez isn't the only new face on the block, though. As previously reported, Michael Stahl-David has been cast as Chris Feistl, while Matt Whelan will take on the role of Daniel Van Ness. Both characters are DEA agents assigned to the drug case in Colombia, but Van Ness is described to be more serious than his partner, Feistl.
Arturo Castro and Kerry Bishé have also been cast for season 3. Castro will play David Rodriguez, the son of one of the Cali Cartel's leaders, who is reluctantly thrust into the leadership role when his father and uncle are arrested. Bishé, on the other hand, will play Christina, an American woman married to a Colombian. Christina will ask the US Embassy for help when her husband suddenly gets himself tangled in the drug trade.
Pedro Pascal, who played agent Javier Pena in the first two seasons, will be back to reprise his role. There is no word yet on Boyd Holbrook's return. It can be recalled that Holbrook played Pena's partner, agent Steve Murphy.
"Narcos" season 3 will premiere in 2017 on Netflix.
