'Narcos' season 2 spoilers and release date; will series show rise of the Cali Cartel?
One Netflix show that TV viewers are eagerly anticipating is "Narcos." There were reports that the show will be returning in August 2016, although no definite date has been set yet. Now on its second season, "Narcos" will tell the tale of Pablo Escobar's remaining months alive. But where will the show go from there?
There's no question that fans will be saying good-bye to Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar in season 2. As "Narcos'" showrunner Eric Newman previously explained, the way the show's storyline had been mapped out, season 1 covered 15 years of Escobar's reign as the King of Cocaine. The second season will follow the Colombian drug lord's incarceration, subsequent escape, and death, which is just roughly about 18 months.
The writers and producers can't very well change the storyline, unless they want to forego the biographical and historical aspect of "Narcos" and go for straight out fiction. They also can't stretch out Escobar's story to fill another season. To quote Newman, doing that "would be disingenuous of us."
Fans shouldn't worry, though, as there are all sorts of scenarios that can make season 2 rich and exciting. One scenario that the producers will no doubt focus on is the hunt for Escobar. Aside from DEA Agents Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) and their team, Escobar was also hunted by a special ops team that comprises members of the US Delta Force, the Navy SEALS, the ISA, and even the vigilante group Los Pepes.
The series can even opt to kill Escobar mid-season. That will definitely surprise viewers who are expecting the season to end with the notorious criminal's death. A major death halfway through the season opens up a host of possibilities, like showing the aftermath of Escobar's demise and how Colombians reacted to it.
Newman also revealed during a Netflix event held earlier this year that "Narcos" will still continue even after Escobar's death. After all, the DEA and the Search Bloc might have taken down Escobar, but his death also led to the rise of the Cali Cartel.
