'Mortal Kombat' and 'Killer Instinct' news: Will a crossover between the two games happen?
Gamers may soon experience laying their hands on the best of two games as there is a possibility for a crossover between "Killer Instinct" and "Mortal Kombat."
At this point in time, though, it is not certain if the intention on the crossover of the two games has already taken some steps forward, and the only piece of assurance that fans have that it might come into fruition is the Twitter statement of NeatherRealm's executive Ed Boon, saying that he wants to merge the worlds of "Killer Instinct" and "Mortal Kombat."
While the post was nothing assuring, it was enough to arouse the excitement of the fans, according to Game Rant. As Boon also tweeted that the planned crossover game should be an Xbox exclusive, Xbox's Phil Spencer responded to the post, saying that he loves the idea. This got the fans excited even more.
"Mortal Kombat" is playable on all platforms, while "Killer Instinct" is exclusively tied to Xbox.
In the event, though, that the crossover pushes through, there are some things that quiz the fans. First, the type of gameplay that the crossover game will have as both games have their respective combo moves for their characters. Another thing that leaves the fans wondering is the outcome of the art style since the bloody and violent art of "Mortal Kombat" highlights its contrast to that of "Killer Instinct's" cartoonish appeal.
On the whole, though, there is no denying that a "Mortal Kombat"-"Killer Instinct" crossover is something worth watching out for, opines Cinema Blend. The publication points out that the last time "Mortal Kombat" experienced a crossover was way back in 2008, wherein its characters were pitted against the heroes of DC Universe. While there was nothing really great about that crossover, says Cinema Blend, it paved the way for NeatherRealm to come up with a DC superheroes game, "Injustice: Gods Among Us," whose sequel is coming out next year.
