Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and Surface Mini release date today?
When Microsoft sent invitations to the media for a "small gathering" in New York set for this Tuesday, May 20, rumors of a new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 release increased strongly. In fact, Microsoft is set to release not just one tablet but two – The Surface Pro 3 and Surface Mini.
Out of the two, the Surface Mini is most likely the one to be released on Tuesday, while the next Surface tablet Pro 3 is the less bet. The most reliable hint that the Surface Pro 3 will be unveiled is Bloomberg's report which said new Surface models will be revealed during the event, including those which will have Intel chips. "Intel" is the main hint since the current Surface tablets pack Intel chips.
Another hint is Microsoft's post on its website support, referencing a Surface Pro 3 camera which was regarded by some as a mere typo error that actually referred the Surface 2 Pro camera. However, CNET said they got it from a source that a 12-inch Surface model from Microsoft is possible, though not certain as to when.
While Redmond wants its Pro tablets to be the fastest of its category, its next Surface Pro tablet can pack the new power-optimized Intel's Broadwell chip, which has not come out yet. However, if the new Pro tablet will come this Tuesday without the Broadwell chip, it will highlight a bigger tablet, as well as a thinner and lighter build. The Surface Pro 2 weighs two pounds and has 10.6-inch display.
If the Surface Pro 3 will indeed show up on May 20, its launch gap with its predecessor is less than a year, since the Surface Pro 2 was revealed in September 2013. Microsoft has not come up with a predictable pattern for its new product releases yet.
