The Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. will deliver a lecture on Sept. 25 in Washington D.C. at a lecture series named after broadcasting social justice pioneer Rev. Dr. Everett C. Parker of the United Church of Christ.

The 30th Annual Everett C. Parker Ethics in Telecommunications Lecture and Awards Breakfast will take place on September 25, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ at 945 G St. NW, Washington D.C. starting at 8 a.m.

The Office of Communication Inc., the media arm of the United Church of Christ will hold its annual event honoring its founder and will take a look at telecommunications and media from an ethical perspective.

Rev. Parker, in his role with the OC, monitored WLBT-TV in the 1960s during the height of the civil rights movement and put pressure on the FCC to deny the station its broadcasting license, citing racist programming. Eventually a lawsuit against the FCC led the station to lose its license.

Rev. Jackson, who is the founder of the Rainbow Push Coalition.

Charles Benton, chairman of the board of the Benton Foundation. He will receive the Everett C. Parker Award in recognition of his support for promoting the public interest in traditional and digital media.

S. Jennell Trig, chair of the Intellectual Property and New Media and Technology Practice Group of Lerman Senter PLLC, will receive the Donald H. McGannon Award in recognition of her work to promote opportunities in telecommunications media for women and people of color.
