'Marco Polo' season 3 release date, rumors: Production delay because of Benedict Wong's anticipated return?

(Netflix/Marco Polo)Hundred Eyes is one of the fan-favorite characters on "Marco Polo" whose two seasons could be seen on Netflix.

After a dramatic season of "Marco Polo," many are wondering about how the story will progress despite the lack of confirmation for a third season.

Fans are still in the dark regarding the renewal of "Marco Polo." With that said, there has been a lot of speculations about what could be causing the delay in Netflix announcing a third season. It was also rumored that there has yet to be confirmation for "Marco Polo" season 3 because of issues surrounding one of the show's stars, Benedict Wong.

Portraying the role of Kublai Khan, Wong allegedly asked for a salary increase from the streaming channel before continuing with the next season. Since Wong's character is an important piece of the story, there are reports stating that Netflix is currently negotiating a deal with the actor. Nevertheless, some fans are blaming him for the delay in "Marco Polo" season 3's production.

In contrast, another of the series' stars, Joan Chen, recently shared her insight about a possible third season. Though she did not confirm any news about the renewal, she explained that she would be willing to reprise the role if need be.

In addition, Chen emphasized the influence of the show on today's culture. Speaking with Northwest Asian Weekly, she said, "Netflix is being smart because the demographic is changing — minorities are big consumers now. If you don't include diversity in your shows, your business isn't going to thrive."

She adds: "With all these shows involved with minority issues and characters — they inspire me. Now I want to start developing more projects ... that spotlight more minority characters!"

With that, there is a lot of excitement for the return of "Marco Polo." However, fans will just have to wait for more news regarding the third season of the series as Netflix has yet to confirm an official release date.
