Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. rematch? Money says it's not happening.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao for the second time around? That's many boxing fans are hoping for. But it is not likely going to happen, says the former.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. had what he says is the final match of his career last Sept. 12. It was against Andre Berto and the boxing champion ran off with another win as analysts predicted, sealing off his career with a perfect 49-0 record. But even with Mayweather insisting he is now in retirement and will never again get on the ring for another match, word of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao never cease to die.
So Money has put his foot down and said that any talks of a rematch with the Filipino boxer is "bull----." He also called Pacquiao's recent dropping of his name regarding the next match as a ploy to increase pay-per-view sales. He went as far as to say that Pacquiao and camp are just "piggybacking off [his] name."
A few weeks ago, Pacquiao posted a video on Facebook teasing about what may also be his last match. He said, "I don't know yet who's my opponent next, but we're still negotiating right now about the rematch with Floyd Mayweather, so hoping for that."
But with Mayweather's recent declarations, that statement may have been answered: it is not happening.
The 38-year old fighter also explained why he doesn't think it's worth the time to face off the 36-year old fighter again.
"Once again, I dissected this fighter, the so-called 'best fighter of our generation'. I dissected him; probably was 10 to 2, really 11 to 1, but it's safe to say 10 to 2. 'Mayweather is so boring, he's this, he's that!' I'm boring enough to do the biggest and the best numbers in pay-per-view history," he told Fight Hype.
