'Man of Steel 2' release date rumors: Sequel starring Henry Cavill already in the pipeline
Although Henry Cavill's first flight as Superman in 2013 was a success, there hasn't really been a lot of news on whether he will fly once again as the said superhero in another solo "Man of Steel" movie. However, the latest in the rumor mill is that a sequel to the said movie is in the pipeline and can be released either in 2018 or 2019.
According to an exclusive report of The Wrap, despite the silence of DC and Warner Bros. on the sequel of "Man of Steel," the film is actually pushing through. While it's true that Cavill already reprised the role in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and is set to reprise it anew in next year's "Justice League," fans can expect to see him displaying the super-heroic moves of the character in another solo movie, according to a source of the publication.
However, fans of Cavill and Superman himself should hold their horses first as the alleged sequel to the "Man of Steel" is not slated to arrive anytime soon. After the currently showing "Suicide Squad," the next DC and Warner Bros. movie scheduled to arrive in theaters is Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" and the all-star cast "Justice League," which are showing on June 2 and Nov. 17 next year, respectively.
In 2018, Warner Bros. is also set to release two other standalone movies about DC characters: Ezra Miller's "The Flash" and Jason Momoa's "Aquaman." However, there is a chance for "Man of Steel 2" to arrive in 2018 as DC and Warner Bros. have booked Oct. 5, 2018 for an unnamed movie. If not, it may arrive on Nov. 1, 2019 as the studio has also booked the said date for another undisclosed film.
"Man of Steel" raked in a total of $668,045,518 as its worldwide gross in 2013, based on the records of Box Office Mojo. The movie launched the DC Extended Universe, which interconnects DC stories and characters on the big screen, just like how the Marvel Cinematic Universe works.
