'Longmire' season 5 release date: Netflix announces crime drama's return

(Longmire / Facebook)"Longmire" will be out on Sept. 23.

Netflix has finally given "Longmire" a premiere date for season 5. Fans of the show have to mark their calendars because the crime drama will be out on Sept. 23.

The good news was recently revealed by Netflix through its official social media accounts including Twitter.

However, there are rumors circulating that the upcoming fifth season could be the show's swan song due to its low number of viewership. It can be remembered that "Longmire's" first three seasons were aired on A&E before it got canceled. Netflix has not released any renewal announcements and it has also not responded to the rumors.

Fortunately, lead actor Lou Diamond Phillips responded to the rumors on his Twitter. When a fan tweeted him that he thought the show is going strong on Netflix, he wondered why he is hearing some talks that it will be canceled. Lou responded to the tweet: "It is. For some reason, some people have the mistaken assumption that S5 is our last. Not so."

According to other reports, Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff) and Walt Longmire's (Robert Taylor) relationship could get a step higher next season. They may even end up tying the knot. The rumors sprouted from the fact that the original source material of the series, "Walt Longmire Mysteries" novel, has written both characters who are in a romantic relationship.

There are also speculations that the showrunners may opt with Walt ending up with Dr. Donna Monaghan (Ally Walker). Last season, viewers saw how much in love Walt is with Donna and just thinks of Vic as a confidant and a younger sister. So, the fate of Walt's love life only depends on the decision of the writers of the show.

Actor Dylan Walsh is also set to play a recurring role of Shane Muldoon. He is the leader of a criminal enterprise with a mysterious yet calming and intelligent look.
