'Iron Man 4' updates and rumors: Will Robert Downey Jr. be back for a fourth film?
Fans of the "Iron Man" movies were devastated to learn last year that there might not be another "Iron Man" movie. The actor had signed on to appear in two more "Avengers" movies but had reportedly been reluctant to sign on for more "Iron Man" films.
In September of last year, Robert Downey Jr. had stated, "There isn't one in the pipe. No there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"
However by October 2014, Downey Jr. may have been in discussion with Marvel Studios about the future of "Iron Man." In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he was asked about whether there would be a fourth "Iron Man."
He replied, "Marvel has plans for more movies and we're in the middle of negotiations." When prodded further by DeGeneres , he playfully answered, "Yes, [there will be a fourth] 'Iron Man' movie."
It seems that Marvel is reluctant to part ways with Downey Jr. He was reportedly paid $50 million for his work in "The Avengers." The actor has been an important contributor in the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His "Iron Man" films have been worldwide box office hits.
While Downey Jr. has yet to make an official announcement regarding "Iron Man 4," fans can still look forward to seeing Tony Stark in two more Marvel movies. He is expected to have a significant role in the "Captain America: Civil War" and the "Avengers 3: Infinity War" movies.
"Captain America: Civil War" will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
There are also speculations that if Downey Jr. steps down, a new "Iron Man" might be introduced. According to Cinema Blend, one possibility is that Downey Jr. will be replaced by Harley Keener (played by Ty Simpkins). Keener, the boy genius who met Tony Stark in "Iron Man 3," may take over the superhero's job.
