'Iron Man 4' release date updates: Robert Downey Jr. confirms fate of film
For several months now, there have been debates on whether "Iron Man" will get a fourth movie. Robert Downey, Jr. may be the best actor to play the iconic billionaire Tony Stark, but fans should not expect for the actor and his character to return in a new film.
Recently, actor Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed that fans won't be seeing his character anymore. The actor gave his confirmation that a fourth "Iron Man" film won't be happening during an interview with USA Today.
At the "Captain America: Civil War" set in Atlanta, the 50-year-old actor told the publication that it would be great if there would be an "Iron Man 4" but admitted that it's not in the cards.
He also shared during the interview that although "Civil War" is considered "Captain America 3," for him it's "Iron Man 4."
Since "Iron Man" became part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when the first film was released in 2008, all three installments of the franchise have earned over $2 billion worldwide combined.
Downey Jr.'s character is also the most popular member of the Avengers in the MCU. The actor played the character so well that it is believed that Tony Stark was made for him.
Downey Jr.'s revelation about the fate of "Iron Man 4" doesn't come much of a surprise since he had already addressed the subject in 2014. When asked by Variety about the possibility of another installment, the "Judge" actor answered, "There isn't one in the pipe. No, there's no plan for a fourth 'Iron Man.'"
The latest confirmation from the actor may have made millions of fans a bit sad, but they will still get to see Tony Stark in his metal suit in action in the upcoming movie, "Captain America: Civil War," which will hit theaters on May 6.
There are also several movies lined up in the MCU, which include "Avengers: Infinity War and "Thor: Ragnarok," and fans can only hope that Tony Stark will suit up in any of these upcoming films.
