'Iron Man 4' release date news: film coming in 2020?

(Facebook/Iron Man)Will Iron Man 4 still feature Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role?

Following the success of "Captain America: Civil War," fans are now watching Marvel's next step, more specifically on its plans for "Iron Man 4," which has long been discussed but never really officially announced.

Marvel has a long list of films on its table as MCU's Phase 3 has only started. However, there is still no solid news on the return of Robert Downey Jr. as the brilliant Iron Man. According to The Christian Times, the movie can potentially release sometime in 2020.

This means Iron Man will most likely suit up for a movie after the MCU's Phase 3 is completed. There is also a chance that the film will be out in between the films comprising the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, rumors are hot on the alleged replacement of Downey Jr. as the iconic Iron Man. For the past years, the actor has taken on the high-tech suit and many fans believe is the only Hollywood star who can successfully pull off the role.

Despite Downey Jr. hinting in previous interviews that he is still interested in making one more movie for the franchise, it is undeniable that if the years push on and no fourth installment releases, he may be too old for the role.

Christian Daily notes that a younger actor may be preferred by producers in case "Iron Man 4" happens for real. There are no names suggested at the moment, especially after Downey Jr.'s performance in "Civil War." On the other hand, names may start to pop up in the next few years if Marvel does not sign up Downey Jr. for another solo project.

Meanwhile, moviegoers can still expect Downey Jr. to take on the iron suit in the upcoming Marvel superhero movies though he won't go solo. Part one of "Avengers: Infinity War" will hit the big screens on May 4, 2018 and Iron Man will still be part of the mighty troop.
