iPhone SE vs ZenFone 3 specs comparison: Bigger ZenFone 3 lags in power but is cheaper

Apple is banking on its iPhone lineup doing well against bigger smartphones, but with the competition from Asian manufacturers becoming stiffer, the coming months are going to prove interesting. Right now however, a lot of competition is going to happen between the ZenFone 3 from Asus and the iPhone SE and this is how these two devices compare.

Design

When it comes to design, the iPhone SE come with an edge as it has a metal unibody and the trademark plastic antenna lines running along its back. The device, which is the smaller-sized smartphone from Apple, also has curved corners and its fingerprint scanner is included in the home button. As for colors, there are four options for people to choose from. These are silver, gray, rose gold and gold.

Compared to this, the ZenFone 3 only has metal on its frame, and its front and back are composed of glass panels with a 2.5D curve. This build gives it a premium look and it is a big improvement from last year's ZenFone 2 lineup which mostly featured plastic. As for colors, there are three - black, gold and white. There is also a fingerprint scanner found at the back of the device.

Display

Here, the ZenFone 3 comes out ahead as it has a Super IPS display measuring 5.5 inches, a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. On the iPhone SE is a smaller IPS LCD display measuring 4.0 inches. It has a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels and a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. It also has 3D touch technology which is not present on the ZenFone 3 and can be used to sense the amount of pressure being applied to the screen.

Hardware

Onboard the ZenFone 3, the hardware consists of a Snapdragon 625 chipset that is coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 506 GPU. As for the iPhone SE, it has a superior Apple A9 chipset coupled with a dual core CPU and a PowerVR GT7600 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on iPhone SE so it cannot support external storage, while the ZenFone 3 supports up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the iPhone SE only has 2 GB while the ZenFone 3 either has 3 GB or 4 GB.

Camera

The iPhone SE has a 12-megapixel camera, while the ZenFone 3 has a 16-megapixel version with OIS. 

Price

Comparing price, the iPhone SE with 16 GB onboard costs $399 while the ZenFone 3 costs $249 unlocked.
