iPad Air 3 release date, rumors: Device may gear toward leaner, more powerful features

(Apple Website)Amidst cancellation rumors, iPad Air 3's speculated features are still surfacing.

While anticipated devices such as the iPhone 7 and the second iteration of Apple Watch are now speculated to be launched in September or within this year, Apple's next entry in its iPad Air line-up does not seem to be bothered. As such, no official or even rumored dates have emerged. With these lack of information surrounding the fate of iPad Air 3, one begs to wonder whether it will ever see its launching day or worse if this is the company's way of telling its consumers that the device has already been shelved for good.

While most of the speculations are circling in on its release date, the device's features have also managed to materialize in the grapevine. MacWorld revealed that the tablet may be rendered with a Smart Connector on the left-hand edge so the users could attach the Smart Keyboard Cover; the Apple Pen can also be connected to this feature.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air 3's design will have a thinner body than its predecessors. It may sport a 7000 series aluminum, akin to iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. It may also be marketed and retailed at four colors — rose gold, space grey, silver and gold.

The device's hardware is speculated to feature the A9X chip and a rear-facing Light-Emitting Diode (LED) flash. Further, the device might not be able to get the 3D Touch feature similar to the most recent iPhones.

The resolution of the next mid-sized tablet, iPad Air 3, may be higher, indicating a higher pixel density. It may reportedly get a bump of up to 401 pixels per inch. Pixel density is a measure of how compact or tight pixels are on the devices' screen.

Amidst the mounting rumors of the device's cancellation, one would wonder why these speculated specifications are still making the rounds lately. One formidable reason is that Apple may be just around the corner waiting to surprise its unsuspecting fans.
