There are no official details yet as to what Apple intends to do next where it concerns the iMac. Still, consumers and analysts alike are hoping for an upgraded model this 2017, and they are crossing their fingers that the rumored March launching will indeed come to pass.

While Apple is known to launch new iPhones on a regular basis in the month of September, March has always been a promising month for the electronics giant as well. Both the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and iPhone SE were launched on March 16, 2016. It is believed that Apple might surprise consumers with the announcement of a new iMac before the month of March comes to an end.

"The desktop is very strategic for us. It's unique compared to the notebook because you can pack a lot more performance in a desktop - the largest screens, the most memory and storage, a greater variety of I/O, and fastest performance," Apple CEO Tim Cook replied to an employee question regarding the future relevance of the iMac, as published by Mac World. "So there are many different reasons why desktops are really important, and in some cases critical, to people," he added.

Cook went on to write that the current generation of iMac is the best desktop that Apple has ever come up with and added that its Retina 5K display is the best there is anywhere in the world. He also mentioned that members of the press have asked in the past as to how committed Apple is to the desktop series. To clear the air and put the minds of Apple employees at ease, the Apple executive assured them that the company has great desktops included in their future plans. He also said that no one should be worried about the desktop's plight.

In terms of the possible specs that the iMac 2017 will feature, consumers are hoping it will include the latest chipset from Intel to boost its processor all the more. Rumors also suggest that the new model will come with a 27-inch screen that bears a 5K resolution, with 32 GB of memory on top of the 2 TB Fusion Drive.

The new iMac is expected to come with an initial offering of $3,199.99.
