Huawei Mate 8 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 5 specs: Huawei is faster and prettier
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 might have released several months ago but it is proving to be pretty resilient device and is providing a lot of competition to the Huawei Mate 8 which came out recently. This is how these smartphones compare in a face off.
Design
Here the Mate 8 has a distinct edge as it comes with a full metal body and rounded edges. As for the back panel it has a sandblasted finish and it has a fingerprint scanner positioned on it. Coming to colors, the device comes in brown, silver, gold and gray. As for the Note 5 it has a metal frame but its back panel features Gorilla Glass 4. It fingerprint scanner is positioned in the home button at the front and there is an S Pen Stylus which can be used to draw or write on the screen. Finally in terms of colors, the device comes in black, gold, white and silver.
Display
When it comes to display size the Mate 8 is bigger and it comes with a LCD version that measures 6.0 inches and it has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 368 pixels per inch. As for the Note 5 it has a Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 518 pixels per inch.
Hardware
In terms of hardware the Mate 8 is faster as it has a HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. As for the Note 5 it has an Exynos 7420 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.
Memory
With no memory slot present on the Note 5 there is no possibility of external storage being added, while the Mate 8 has a slot that supports up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the Note 5 has 4 GB onboard while the Mate 8 has either 3 GB or 4 GB.
Camera
The 16 megapixel camera on the Note 5 has a good ranking on DxOMark but the similar 16 megapixel version on the Mate 8 has not been ranked.
Price
Comparing prices, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 costs $249 with a two year contract, while the Mate 8 costs $643 without a contract.
