HTC smartwatch news: Rumors point to an April launch
With the wearable space heating up over the past few months and more smartwatches entering the market, it appears likely that HTC is also planning to bring out their own offering. However, this is not the first time that a smartwatch from HTC has been in the rumor mill and this is just another rumor with a release date attached to it.
Reporting on the rumor about the HTC smartwatch, Ubergizmo states that it now appears likely that the device will land in April. This particular rumor was brought to life thanks to the notorious tipster Evan Blass who took to his Twitter account and stated that the smartwatch could make an appearance in the middle of April. However, even though Blass has a long track record of providing excellent leaks about upcoming devices, it is clear that many industry analysts have taken the most recent one with a huge amount of salt.
This is because it is not the first time that a smartwatch has been associated with HTC and previously, it was thought that the company was creating a device with a "Halfbeak" name. This particular rumor surfaced in September 2015 and since then, nothing has been revealed of the smartwatch. However, even at the time, it was rumored that when the smartwatch arrives from HTC, it would have a round body and possibly run on Android Wear.
Android Wear is the default operating system which is often used by a number of manufacturers as devices running it can be paired with iOS and Android devices. Given this, it is likely that the upcoming wearable from HTC will also be running it.
Finally, when it comes to the launch of the device, it is likely that HTC is bringing it out in April as it wants something to accompany its HTC One M10 flagship, which is rumored to arrive at the same time.
