Honor 5X vs HTC One M9: Cheaper Honor 5X can't keep up with the hardware of its competitor

While the Honor 5X might be arriving in the United States soon, it will have to take on other metal-bodied devices like the HTC One M9 if it is wants to emerge ahead of the pack. Here is how these two devices compare in a showdown.

Design

In this category, it is difficult to call a winner, because the Honor 5X comes with a metal body with a brushed finish that gives it a premium look. Additionally, there is a fingerprint scanner on the back panel of the device and in terms of colors, it comes in black, white and gold.

As for its competitor, the One M9, it does not have a fingerprint scanner but it does have a similar metal build with dual colors. Its metal build is heightened by a polish that is applied by hand and the device comes in amber gold, gray, a silver and rose gold combination, pink, and a gold and pink combination.

Display

Here, the Honor 5X has a size advantage as it has an IPS LCD display measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch. On the One M9 is a super LCD3 display measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

Hardware

Onboard the One M9 is a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the Honor 5X, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The HTC One M9 has a memory slot that supports up to 200 GB of external storage while the slot on the Honor 5X supports up to 128 GB. When it comes to RAM, the Honor 5X has either 2 GB or 3GB and its competitor has 3 GB.

Camera

Comparing cameras, the HTC One M9 has a 20 megapixel version while the Honor 5X has a 13 megapixel version.

Price

When it comes to price, the Honor 5X from Huawei has a $199 price tag unlocked, while the HTC One M9 costs $199 with a two year contract.
