'Harry Potter' news: Director Chris Columbus would love to make a movie continuing the stories of Harry, Hermione, and Ron
"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" director, Chris Columbus, has recently expressed his enthusiasm in making another "Harry Potter" movie or "Harry Potter 8."
According to Christian Post, the director is very much interested in making "Harry Potter 8," which will tell the story of what really happened after the events in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" parts 1 and 2.
"I would love to go back and do another one. Not 'Fantastic Beasts' as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I'm just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There's 18 years there of great 'Harry Potter' stories," Columbus told Entertainment Weekly during his interview for the movie "Pixels."
But of course, this plan will have to go through the original author of the series first, J.K. Rowling. When asked if the director has approached the author, he said that "I don't have the courage to actually mention that to her because I have such respect for her."
Sadly, there is no word yet from J.K. Rowling. But as for the time-skip and what happened with the characters after Voldemort's defeat, Screenrant reported that the author has already released a couple of short stories last year.
It was reported that these short stories, at least some of them, have already "filled in some of the gaps," said Screenrant.
Fortunately, "Harry Potter" fans will still have something to look forward to next year. The stage play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," is said to begin in the summer of 2016 and the spin-off movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," premieres on Nov. 18, 2016.
