'Halo 5' Memories of Reach DLC news: New Infected game mode, new weapons, and REQ balance changes coming this May
343 Industries has previewed the upcoming Memories of Reach update arriving to "Halo 5" later this month. According to their latest community blog, the update will introduce new game modes, new controller options, and tons of new armor pieces, skins, and weapons. Memories of Reach will also introduce updates to the user interface, matchmaking preference options, Forge Mode, and balance updates for REQ weapons.
Infection, the new game mode, will have 12 players engaging in four rounds of battle with each round limited to 3 minutes. Spartans will be able to access all their Spartan abilities, while the Infected will have Thrust, Smart Scope, and Stabilize. Infected will also have a new custom game option called "Last Squad Standing." There will be a total of 18 new medals available for players to collect including Zombie Hunter, Hell's Jumper, Infector, Infected, Survive, and Flatline.
343 has also previewed some of the new items arriving with the upcoming game update. Some of the new weapons include the Brute Plasma Rifle, the Azure Dream, the Sharktooth Grin, and the Spirit of Fire. More items will be unveiled in the days leading up to the release date.
The game developer also announced that the Forge Mode will be updated. Unfortunately, aside from a cryptic GIF on the blog, no details regarding possible changes have been released.
Finally, Memories of Reach will also introduce REQ weapon balance changes that will streamline their effectiveness in both Warzone and Arena. According to Michael Wetzel, a Big Date engineer, in order to compare all weapons, a "kills per weapon use" metric was used. The statistics obtained helped game developers implement fair and comprehensive balance changes within "Halo 5."
According to 343, the "Halo 5" Memories of Reach DLC is not yet ready for release as there are still a few more tweaks and fixes to be done. However, the game developer has assured fans that they will be continually updated with the latest developments.
"Halo 5" is available to play for the Xbox One.
