There was a previous circulating rumor regarding the identity of Peter Quill's father which will be introduced in the much awaited film sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." The father's name, which might sound a bit farfetched, is Captain Marvel or also referred to as Mar-Vell, the Kree officer, Screenrant reports. However, movie director James Gunn has finally had it with these rumors and speculations and has gone to public to address the Captain Marvel rumors by debunking it.

On Gunn's Facebook account on November 24, the film director has finally clarified that the strongly suggested rumor about Captain Marvel being Peter Quill's dad is actually false.

"From this moment on I'm going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it," Gunn wrote on his statement.

The director then continued to debunk the rumor and has revealed that it is actually far from the truth about Peter Quill's heritage.

"That said, the rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth," he continued. "I don't know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn't through legitimate sources."

Gunn further addresses the issue of "scoops" and spoilers, which can totally ruin the movie experience for hardcore fans of the sequel "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" or any other film for that matter.

"I got in this business because I love movies, and I think most film journalists are the same way," the film director added. "And spoiling plot details doesn't add to the enjoyment of the film-going experience."

Lastly, he also announced that this will be his last comment regarding the circulating rumors for his upcoming movie and he also added that the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will not rely on surprises or twists in its storyline just for it to be enjoyable—read James Gunn's full statement here.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2016.
